Orca Team – Restraint
Orca Team is a trio that originally formed in Portland, Oregon, but has since migrated along with their short, minimalistic & catchy surf-influenced tunes up the 5 to Seattle. With a couple of lengthy EP’s under their belts, Orca Team quietly released their new LP, Restraint, right around the beginning of the summer, but it’s been slowly gaining a lot of momentum and I think they’ve got a great thing going with this one.
I love the band’s description if their music: “a 1960s Post Punk Beach Party… the music of a punk trio if everyone in the band decided to keep their volume low and their tones clean.” Pretty dead-on, really. Orca Team makes perfectly moody songs for a beach party in less-than-perfect weather or any day ever surfing in the northwest. Not exactly warm & fuzzy, but fit for a bipolar NW summer, creative & a fun band to catch live in any weather.

Seeing Orca Team was one of the highlights of my summer so far… never stopped dancing the whole set… crazy tight and a lot of fun.
